Muslim scholars make the theological case against the Islamic State

More than a hundred Muslim scholars and leaders from around the world released an open letter addressed to Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi on Wednesday, telling the self-proclaimed caliph, in no uncertain terms, that the group’s use of Islamic scripture is illegitimate and perverse.

The document, which was issued in Arabic and English on the website Letter to Baghdadi and is embedded below, begins with a list of practices employed by the Islamic State (also known as ISIS or ISIL) that its authors say are explicitly forbidden by Islam. They include torture, slavery, forced conversions, the denial of rights for women and children, and the killing of innocents.

The letter emphasizes that Baghdadi’s claims to a caliphate spanning eastern Syria and western Iraq are void.

“Who gave you authority over the ummah [Muslim people]?” the letter asks. “Was it your group? If this is the case, then a group of no more than several thousand has appointed itself the ruler of over a billion and a half Muslims. This attitude is based upon a corrupt circular logic that says: ‘Only we are Muslims, and we decide who the caliph is, we have chosen one and so whoever does not accept our caliph is not a Muslim.’ “

Fasting is valid even when coerced into breaking it

muslims

From Yasir Qadhi:

Yesterday, a brother from Xinjiang, China, who is working in my city came up to me with a question. He told me that his relatives back home were asking: would their fast count if they were forced to eat and drink by the government during the day?

I asked him how the government does this. He replied that there is a public luncheon (for example, his relative is a schoolteacher) and the Muslims are monitored to see if they eat or drink. So there are people whose job it is to check whether Muslims are eating or not.

I said, “Is there any way for them to pretend to eat but not actually eat?” He replied, “Not really, since the government monitors are checking to see if they are actually eating.”

I asked what were the consequences if they refused. He said that best case scenario is that they would eventually lose their jobs, and worst case scenario, jail and imprisonment and fines. He told me that he had called his mother a few days ago to wish her Ramadan Mubarak, to which his mother, a very elderly lady, became agitated, changed the topic, and hinted at him not to even mention the word ‘Ramadan’ over the phone for fear of repercussion and harassment. FEMEN activists sneak into Stockholm Mosque to stage topless protest

FemaleSetan

In a latest attempt at Islamophobia activity in Europe, three women from the feminist protest group FEMEN sneaked into the Stockholm Mosque on Södermalm in Stockholm, where they took off their clothes and displayed themselves topless. On their torsos were posted slogans such as “No Sharia in Egypt and the world” and “My body is mine, not somebody’s honor”. They shouted slogans like “Free Women”, “No Sharia” and “No Oppression.” Perhaps they believed that desecrating and defiling a sacred sanctuary is a “civilised” form of thinking.

Fortunately, the women were arrested shortly thereafter by the local police, and are now being held for public indecency and undermining public morals. (Source)
